300tdi not enough revs?

Just got my forth Discovery this one is a 300tdi. The problem i have with it is when under load it will not rev evenly past 3000 revs in fact it struggles when under load(going up hill). From when the turbo comes in at 1800 fine good even pull right up to 3000. I know they arn't race cars and but 3500 is all i wan't to make the car do what i want. When not under load on flat it will get 4000 be fore it runs out of steam. Any ideas injector poss or even pump(hope not)

Do all the easy stuff first mate. When under the circumstances you are describing, are you putting out alot of smoke?

Try renewing air filter, fuel filter, empty sedimenter.

Spend half hour giving your fueling a tweak, de-cat it. Yada yada. It all adds up

4000 revs in a tdi ? What you trying to do ? Break the sound barrier ?

Thank you for your replys, I should have put in the question i had changed fuel and air filter. So i am thinking lift pump will get one and try. If i wanted to break the sound barrier i would nick wife's civic type R.
