300tdi noisy

hi just upgraded my old disco for one a bit newer but the engine sounds like a transit di and when i dip the clutch i can feel the diesel knock through the pedal any one had the same thing with theres my old one doesnt do this when i dip the clutch its nice and smooth.it pulls ok just sounds noisy

does it just sound noisy as common problem with new or worn clutches

hi it sounds very raspy like a transit di and when the clutch is dipped i can feel it through the pedal .clutch is fine its hard to explain sort of a diesel knock or could it be timing out i dont know where to start

start with holding each of the injector pipes in turn. See if you can feel the knock through the pipes. Does the knock speed up and slow down with the engine revs?

any history as to when the cambelt was last changed?

when was it last serviced the oil may be going thin.

hi just seems to be when i pull off and when i pull up think the timeing belt was done last year as there is a recipt for a timing belt bought last october in the paperwork i got with it. its sounds great on idle just when i rev it it sounds very rasby as i say you would think it was a old transit di if you couldnt see it

its not tappets or piston slap or big ends i know that for sure think its down to timing or injectors will give it a oil and filters change and try what uve said with injector pipes and let you know the outcome in the next few days thanks all for the help what a cracken bunch you are

My old engine sounded like that, until it gave up. Turned out to be a screwdriver bit inside the engine.doh. Hopefully its nothing to bad thou matey.

it might be just a bit too advanced on timing

hi just a quick update retarded the pump timing a touch and it seems to have done the trick thanks to all for there help u never know i might be able to help one of yous one day

hi still having a problem retarded timing a bit sounded great took it for a run seemed ok took it out last night and it started again was very noisy parked it up went out and started it today and it was quiet for about 2 minutes as soon as it starts to warm up i get the diesel rattle back the hotter it gets the louder the diesel rattle gets it so embarrasing driveing it i feel as if people look at it and say listen to that checked timing its spot on its doing my head in looks like ill have to cut my losses and just buy another engine and drop it in if i dont find a answer soon

pump advanceds itself for start up ,its possible pump top needs checking by pukp specialist

hi me again well sorted out the problem just thought id let yous all know what it was in case some one else has the same problem.well believe it or not it was the injectors got some second hand ones off ebay just to try as that was my last resort and put them in and hey sounds sweet now. but thanks again to all that have helped and hope this will help others in the future.
