Hi,

Need some advise I have a 300tdi auto disco, and recently removed the egr valve. Once I'd done that however I found that if I accelerated too hard or if I stayed at a constant speed of say 75-80mph on the motorway the engine would cough and I'd get quite a lot of smoke out of the back and I would lose power untill I either took my foot of the accelerator or switched off and back on again then it would be fine for another mile or so and then do it again.
I decided that it might be something I'd done wrong with the egr so I reversed everything I'd done and now I've still got the smoking on the motorway and loss of power but I've also now got a very high pitched screaming when accelerating hard.
Anybody got any ideas as I'm pretty much at my witts end and about ready to chop the thing in :(

Thanks
Dean

No but that has just been suggested to me just now. Was about to go out and have a look when the heavens opened so I'll be off out to do that as soon as it stops bucketing down.. :( also had it suggested that it may be the turbo bearing or missing impeller fins.. so I'll be checking that too. I don't remember seeing any obvious signs of damage to the hoses.. but then I wasn't looking that hard.

Aye if hose's are fine definitely check the turbo out, other than that it might be a fuelling issue?

Check to see the wastegate linkage on the turbo (which is a pain on a D1 as its on the bottom) is "free" to move through its full range, give it a "working" and some lubrication at all the pivot points, especially the main on into the turbo, that may well stop your scream ;)
