h reg 2oo tdi disco..160k.....
.. ns cv joint went bang last week.... ive pulled it apart this afternoon... its different to the axle in busters photo guide.... the drive flange has a splined shaft on it that pokes into the stub axle and cv joint.... the outer lump of the cv joint has come out leaving 6 balls and bits of broken metal in the swivel housing and theres a 6 pronged cog on the splined end of the half shaft....which the balls obviously sat in at some point, should this just pull off the halfshaft.... a gentle tug seems to want to pull the whole halfshaft out the diff .is this normal?

there wasnt any oil in the swivelhousing... but the bits were a bit greasy... how much grease should be put in on reassembly ... do they need regreasing after x thousand miles.... should i pull the other side apart to regrease it.?

you have to slide it all out to get the cv of,slide it all out then holding the halfshaft tap the cv with a hammer and it will pop of

Sounds like you've got the early type cv joint with separate stub shaft as fitted to range rovers of that period. Does your drive flange have a mushroom shaped end and come in one oiece with the stub shaft?

"the drive flange has a splined shaft on it that pokes into the stub axle and cv joint..."

the outer end of the cv joint is an internally splined collar about an inch or so long that the splinned shaft on the drive flange slides into
