Hi There,

I have a 1992 'K' reg Disco 200TDi I have just recently restored my labour of love and it's looking very good (i'll post some pictures soon) I aquired said Disco three years ago and been driving since (apart from the 8 month restoration job) I find that between 2000 to 2500 revs the clutch slips in 4th and 5th gear, well, when I'm driving up hill or fully loaded I put on some hard acceleration it slips put goes back to normal after 2500rpm, every other gear is fine in both Low and High range, diff etc so off-roading is not a problem.

As this has been happening for over 3 years and some 15000 miles later, is better just to leave it and be frugal with the accelerator or is it going to go massively wrong at some point? The gears change perfectly and no problems engaging gears...........

On a another problem whilst I'm here, I recently replaced the 200Tdi filter housing with a K&N air filter and with a 45deg aluminium elbow joint and a 45deg silicon elbow to the turbo, since then I am hearing the turbo a lot more (faint clicking as it speeds up) is there a cleaner that can be used for the turbo or do you think this needs replacing as well, I have no loss in power infact I have increased power than previous.

Anyway, as you where all very helpful in my last posts I would like to get your thoughts on these couple of items.

Many Thanks, Disco Dan

clutch slip will just be old age, if you leave it it's likely to fail leaving you stranded, things tend to fail when you least want them to

get rid of that silly pointless KnN filter, replace the original setup as god intended and all will be well again

you say u replaced the 200Tdi filter housing with a K&N air filter and with a 45deg aluminium elbow joint and a 45deg silicon elbow to the turbo, DO NOT DO THIS. i did at one point and it came apart off roadin, took in water, i was lucky only needed new inter cooler !!
as for the clutch id get new one fitted. iv just had my clutch done it was fine on road little rattly when parked. i used diff lock one day and it went

Thanks for the comments, the person that said a K&N air filter is the way to go is my resident mechanic, so I had no reason to argue, although he does drive a Toyota MR2..........

Anyway, I will change the air filter back when I get a chance.

I thought I would need to change the clutch........ bugger (no quick fix there) :(

my mechanic has 2 discos a 90,a series and for his mrs a gaylander.... he still gives bad advice. cos its them u go to when it all goes tits up !!!!

owning a RR and having a butler is one thing, but inst having a resident mechanic a bit excessive even for a elderly disco ?

if as you say it's been slipping for two years, you gonna be up for more than a clutch, reckon flywheel may be coming out as well.
