Finally a decent day on Skye saturday so started attending to me 04 disco which was sold to me by bandits from Yorkshire. However, that's another story which I will post about another time.

So, the tyres on my disco, a flash set of 10 spoke alloys which glinted so beautifully when I went to see the car, now, after getting a puncture over the weekend, would seem should be more at home on a Disco 3 instead of 2. Apparently I should have 16" alloys not 18"?! I found this piece of info out when I tried to fit the spare which turned out to be a 16' allow with brand new tyre ( I wondered why I had two different types of wheel nut removal bars).

So, the questions are:

1. Is having the 18' alloys with the following tyres ok / safe? 255/55 r18 109v

2. Would I be better of getting a set of 16" wheels when the current tyres are due for replacement instead of obtaining an 18" spare. I guess I could always sell the alloys on ebay as they're probably the newest thing on the car?

Thanks - Mcd

16 or 18 its up to u . mine has both 18 for the summer & 16 for the winter works great for me . Discovery 2 came with 16 & 18 on them just depends on the model

255/55/18 is the size my disco came with originally, but as was mentioned above there is more choice (and cheaper) in 16"

My 03 TD5 came with 16" since fitted some 18" with 255/55/18 and have noticed no difference to ride quality better at cornering if anything.
18" tyres are a wee bit more expensive but, I managed to get a set of five brand new from ebay for £240 delivered fullrun tyres too :D.
