Is a tax exempt 101, with PAS possible?

Ive only recently realised that the exemption is rolling again, and am thinking about the future, when my 101 gets £230 a year cheaper to keep!


But does this rule out PAS conversions, due to the chassis being slightly altered?

I am no expert, but I would think its the original chassis, just altered, rather than a new chassis different from original, so you should be able to keep the age and VRM.

Then I looked, and my opinion is now uncertain

gov site says "having the original or new and unmodified chassis" nothing about original but modified chassis. So to my mind, oringal altered chassis is OK, but not a new galv one with the alterations

Until further down where it says "it has a second-hand or altered chassis, monocoque bodyshell or frame" under non-age (Q) plating.

So I am now as confused as you may be


However all of that is for registering a vehicle for the first time, if its already registered, I guess you just wait and enjoy the saving in the future

IMO Id fit PAS now, get it done and weathered so it looks original!!! Im doing mine in the next month so will start a thread on how I do it. Was going to use a 4 bolt Defender box and cut the front rh leg to suit, retaining the idler... but have since looked at another converted 101 that uses a Nissan Patrol/Navara box mounted on the front of the first x member....

Once it's registered as 'historic' you can do what you want to it. Nobody will know nor care!

certainly makes it look like its rolling again (40yr).

Historical exemption is rolling again and has been for about 6 months, until Labour get in and stop it again.

This thread as certainly caught my eye, as I also own a 1976 Ford Capri which this year in September 2015 will be 39 years old.
Shame its not the same with MOTs
I only tax it for six months in the summer anyway but I take it now that after September 2016 I won't need to get it taxed at all. Great
