Curious indeed. I thought 200tdi was the standard fit from late '90
No pics of back end or interior tho....otherwise looks pretty smart.

did the mod continue to use NA engines after the introduction of the 200tdi?

Busters is on a J with a 200Tdi in it as standard.

That does look ex-mod to me though, and i do belive the MOD skipped the 200Tdi completly? Then went to 300Tdi's with the WOLF. Which would explain why a 200 has been retro fitted. (Dunno why it looks Ex-mod... Just does?)

Although... I would still walk away. You can not have a Car moted that far in advance, you can have it done up to a month in advance... Not 2 and 1/2!

Don't know what the problem is - anything can have another engine retro fitted if the old one goes pop.

And you can MOT a car at any time - the one month early thing just means you can have a 13 month MOT. Doing it early just means you can sell it with a fresh 12 monther to keep the buyer happy.

Doesn't seem particularly dodgy to me.....?

Aye mines is a 1991 J reg 200tdi;)

Lookin' at the photies, the dash looks about right apart from the centre where somebody has fitted a convoy switch and some kinda housin'. The steering wheel could be from a 300tdi as ah've done the same tae mine. The seats don't matter as ye can shove just about anything in there. Those look like earlier type seats where as ah've got a rear seats out of a range rover...

This is the steering wheel that used to be on....

Ah noticed the badge on the front grille panel says Defender (same as mine) and not Land Rover 110, which maybe mean that who ever changed the engine has replaced the badge or stuck another panel on.
The engine is a 200tdi the same as mine.

Forgot tae mention that the bulkhead could probably do with a lookin' at. There's a bit of rot near the passenger side door stay bracket and chances are there will be more else where;)

It's an Ex-Military Hardtop.

Defenders with the 2.5 Litre Naturally Aspirated Diesel Engine were being made for MoD Contracts well into the 90's.

(you can download the Supplementary Parts Manual for the 1991 Contracts 110's from the link in my signature)

There's plenty of MOD non Wolf varient vehicles with 200 TDIs fitted - don't know if they were a refit or part of the contract.

Or could it be an ex-mod vehicle, built prior to '92 and registered when sold into civvy life?. Listed as 1992 model, registered in 2008...whih doesn't help!!

paul beat me to it, its an ex mil, loads of features pointing to it, bonnet hatches, interior convoy lighting control, bumper etc, pauls list was pretty comprehensive.

looks a pretty fair price to me

Thnk he's made a mistake on the MOT - if he had it done yesterday, it would have years MOT, not just 4 months - it's the way he wrote it, it's confusing! Tax till April, not MOT!

If it was a proper NA it woudn't have a air vent in the passenger side, that must have been retro fitted presumably with the 200 engine.
