Right - oil leaking from rear hub all over brake calipers and being thrown around. so reading the forums brought new oil seals, lock washers nuts, gaskets etc ready for the job.
Removed wheel, brake caliper, half shaft all no problem,
opened up staking on the big nut holding the hub on - removed no problem.
Now there is a great big washer which the haynes manual say " remove washer" - i can not budge it - i have pushed and pulled the brake disk.
i have even put a wheel back on to try to pull off the washer with the hub but nothing budges !

Any idea on how to get the bloody thing off ? I can not understand why the hub wont come off as once the washer is removed it should just pull off also ?

Mistery solved !
after posting this i thought i'd give it one more try - guess what the washer came loose, however the hub didn't come off easily. so after again a lot of pulling and banging it all came apart.
The problem is much worse than i thought the inner bearing case had broken up and the ball races ( half of them ) have welded themslves to the stub axel! this is what was stopping the hub from coming away - the hub itself is scored - so i hope no one else has the same problem getting it off as its going to need a new stub axel - rear o/s hub + bearings and i might as well put on new brake disks + pads while i have it all apart
