Was thinking of fitting a raised air intake to my 90 2.5 PETROL. Not planning on wading but I have seen a Disco in wales drop into a muddy puddle on a lane and the nearside dip into the water and sucked water in.

Only thing is I cant seem to find a raised air intake for the 2.5 carb petrol engine on my 1986 90.

The air box is at the front of the near side wing. Its a cylinder shape. I was wondering if I could get some of the flexi hose that people like mm 4x4 sell and make one up. Theres no room behind side vent and heater box looks like it will get in the way of a the rebel 4x4 one that is a general gitment type

will prob chuck on an electric fan as well

so any ideas apart from throwing in a tdi ?

I think that some of the parts are no longer available and those that are still available, are silly money

Mantec used to sell one that would be suitable, I don't know if they still do.

Rebel4x4 sell a couple that would be suitable -

Thanx for that

thats one hell of a snorkel on that blue one

I looked at the rebel one but I wouldnt be able to get the pipe to run inside the front wing as the heater stuff is in the way I think

still giving me ideas

I cut a hole in the wing and fitted a 200TDi snorkel kit to mine. This used the back part of the 200 vent which has a hose that runs through the engine compartment and connects to the filter housing. There is room under the heater to feed the hose through.

When I switched from a 2.5NA to a TDi no changes needed!!

It was a Mantec snorkel I fitted. The 200TDi parts are available from Landy dealers and Mantec provided a perfect template to cut the hole. Took a couple of hours to fit.

I don't know if it's possible to sqeeeeze the intake pipe between the heater air-box and the wing, it'd be very tight, but might be possible.

You could always do what they did for the Royal Marine's Winterised Waders.

Move the heater intake to a Series III grille on the wing and take the engine air intake down through the wing, where the standard heater grille should be -
