Cheers for looking, i have an ex mod 110 1990 diesel na, and am wanting to give it a new paintjob, where is the best place to buy 'Olive NATO green'?? paint. ALso it has been brushed by the army and wondering if this is the same, should i just paint it with a brush, any techniques, or anything to take into account.??

Thanks alot.

anchor supplies or war paint both should google. if you havnt got any spraying facility the id suggest roll and paint. get a nice quality brush and paint all the tricky bits like panel gaps and hinges etc and do the rest with a decent gloss roller.

If you need to rub it down to the alloy to remove blisters then you will need an etch primer. I painted mine with a brush and it looks reasonable. Use search window at top of screen (google custom search) and you will find previous posts on this subject for more tips

I've been researching this recently, so I'll save you some time. Good thread here which has a link to a good page.

Elsewhere, this is really interesting and this.

I read one other really good pagre somewhere, but now can't find it.

Looks good...how long did it take you start to finish? Did you prime it first? Ballpark figure so i know how long i'm going to be walking!

I rubbed it down first mate (just enough to rough existing paint up) which took about an hour.

Masking taped up round windows and lights then litrally got stuck in!

Once i started painting it took me around 5 hours but thats including painting the chequer plate with Hammerite!

I didnt use primer as my existing paintwork was sound enough, and thought 'it would only be getting scratched' again anyway but the green paint i used i bloody brilliant for resisting sratches!

Is it still looking alright Scott? My paint should arrive on Tuesday :) your photos make it look like it has a satin finish, is it really quite good rough matt stuff or has it got a bit of shine to it?

Hi Pos yeah i did it in Matt finnish but my pic shows it when its wet (was raining that day) when dry (from rain) its does look more Matt.

When i clean all the mud back off it it just comes back to nice Drab olive green its great! And to say it only cost me 20 odd quid and did it me self its a brilliant feeling! :D

Good stuff :) I'll put some pics up when I've done it. I'm hoping to get it all done next week.

Nice one Pos look forward to see it! Good look
:D

Cheers. What's the difference between olive drab and nato green then? I bought the paint that you posted a link to a while ago - which is titled 'matt nato green', but it looks more like olive drab and you refer to it as olive drab. I'm very confused! What would you consider any of these colours to be? Are any of them the same as yours?

Sorry mate its watever it says on the tin, thought they were the same tbh (Drab and Nato) lol

Mine looks the same colour as the VW Polo mate!

Ahhhh! I've ordered Matt Nato Green, not Matt Olive Drab. It's the Matt Nato Green I'm after, so it should look a bit darker I'd imagine. We'll have to see!

Alright. No there is a difference by the looks of things. The Olive Dab is a lighter, more 'olive' shade of green. Nato Green is a much darker green. I've ordered the nato paint so it will end up looking more like this:
