Hi all,

I'd appreciate some opinions on this one. I changed the oil in my 200TDi yesterday along with the oil filter. Messy job!

As far as i was aware the capacity is 6ltr. I put the best part of 5 ltr of 10W40 back in thinking that maybe not all of the oil drains out (especially since I had the front jacked up when changing).

I let the engine tick over for 10 mins then left it to settle so I could see the level on the dip stick.

This morning the dip stick is black (dirty oil still?) way up over the HI mark. After cleaning the stick and rechecking a few times, it's the same. I'm now worried that I've overfilled the oil and that there was too much old oil still in the engine when I added the 5 ltr.

What do you think?

And what should I do?

Thanks

Is that really necessary storm99? The oil cost a packet.

What's happened in your opinion? And is there no other method of salvage? Could I not just simply drain a little out and manage?

He never said owt about throwing the oil away. ya nitwit.. He just said drain and refill.

sounds like you didnt ,drain all the oil out it holds 6.7 litres if drained properly with filter changed too as storm said must be done on level surface, yes you could drain some out ,but that would only be half an oil change ,just get good quality trade mineral oil
