Hey Guys,

Anyone had a windscreen done in there Defender lately? How much did it cost and where did they get it from. I can change it myself but can't seem to get hold of one apart from ebay. Anyone know wat autoglass are charging for the whole lot it says from 100 quid on there site and would think a defender is one of the cheapest.

ring around. standard ones are cheap. I was quoted £130 for a heated one fitted by national auto windscreens... still not got that one sorted, doh!

so you should be able to get a standard for £70-£90ish surely.

You could do it yourself with a mate thats not ham fisted and some good string/ electrical wire .
I ended up buying a 2nd hand TD5 screen + frame and replacing the whole lot for £40 :) .

This is part of a post I did last summer on here.....

Trying to get a windscreen or any windows is not always that easy. They tend to be collect only for obvious reasons and prices vary wildly!
Last night I was quoted £283 by Autoglass for a plain 1994 Defender 90 windscreen replacement/fit..... I kid you not.
If you are in the North West this thread could save you a small fortune.
I have just ordered a replacement windscreen for my 90 for..... £32 +VAT from Bolton Safety Glass, 97-99 Derby Street, 01204 393260. I spoke with Tim who was very helpful and he will call me when it arrives for me to collect.

Further to that, I took his advice and let them fit it for me. I had a new seal and they fitted it for £15 (a donation to the tea kitty)
Some will say its a doddle to fit but I can hand on heart say after watching 2 fitters do it I would not attempt it.

dont use autoglass.. insurance paid for mine last year an it was £275, after i phoned paddock an they have em for 48 quid, new rubber cant be that much. dont knoe where autoglass get their prices from
