Default Front Brake disc replacement

Been for MOT today - failed.

Need new front discs. Can't find my manual. Garage all ran for cover when I said "what they like to change" is it that bad? also tester was pissed off when the landie (90, 1989) pissed on his head from rear diff. Is the seal replaceable with diff in situ (prop off, etc)

cheers for any response

Yes diff is replaceable in situ - Replacing the diff pinion oil seal. - LR4x4 - The Land Rover Forum

Not sure about change front discs but if its anything like the rear, just take the hub off and there are about 6 bolts securing the disc to the hub. to make it easier to undo them, put the hub face down onto the wheel you've taken off to stop it spinning

Just removed the discs etc from my 97 defender 130, are the inner hub bearings supposed to stay in the hub housing or on the axle as mine did?

Default Front Brake disc replacement

The discs can sometimes take a bit of effort to remove from the hub, I struggled with my old 300tdi Disco and eventually asked a mechanic, who used a block of alloy on the floor to protect the hub and seal, and belted the disk off with a big hammer.

Just done my Defender 300tdi and they tapped out lovely, just depends on the tolerances or rust. The rest of the job isn't too bad. Read up on adjusting the wheel bearings back up, as that is the only bit I have needed to redo as I left them too slack.

If it's any help, here are some pictures of me doing mine a few weeks ago.
Brown's brake rebuild thread
Yes, the discs were quite firmly rusted onto the hubs but do not despair, they can be hammered loose. I cleaned up the mating surfaces on my hubs and put grease on, and then the action of tightening the bolts squeezed the new ones on nicely (provided you go round a few times and tighten them evenly). I changed pistons and seals at the same time for good measure, but it's worth checking that the pistons are able to move freely, because they do tend to rust up, as I discovered.

I don't think it really matters. Sometimes the seal pulls them off as you remove, sometimes not. The main thing it to get everything settled back together concentrically (if that's a word) on reassembly. Oh, and try not to drop them on the ground so they get grit all stuck to them, as I tend to do.
