diff help pls

ok me mate done his rear diff on his td5 defender 2000 model

im getting 2 different opinions some say that a standard 24 spline diff will fit

and some say the td5 diff is model specific

so anyone got a definitive answer for him pls

case varies on outer flange thickness on earlier 24 spline meaning the 4 center side studs are shorter than the other studs td5 studs are all the same length

so he has a td5 with all studs same length are u saying if he uses a 24 spline diff some of the studs arnt long enough to poke thru the diff outer flange?

if you fit earlier diff 4 studs will seem too long though it will fit ,if fitting td5 diff in earlier case 4 studs need changing

he will be fitting a 300 tdi diff to the td5 as people seem to charge a premium advertising a diff as a td5 diff whereas the 300 tdi is half the cost

availabilty and people not knowing

Just doing a quick search as I have this problem

I have a new rear axle casing, direct from LR supplier 2012

It has short side studs

My original 1992 front casing has short side studs

All of the 300tdi diffs I have take long side studs, I have a td5 disco front diff that takes short studs/bolts all round!

Is it possible to change all my studs to long so that I can fit any diff casing?

Is there a part number available James please?

yes they just tap out and in ,long studs are 561196
