Well I loaded up the 110 with rubbish to take to the bins down the drive.

Got to the bins and..... clang... no drive. Managed to limp back up to the house in difflock.

Props are ok, suspecting half shaft or drive flange. Hopefully not the tranny box!!
 
there was a horrible amount of slop in the drivetrain, which now in difflock has dissapeared...

i hadnt gotten around to having a look at what it was as I had suspected it was the A frame ball joint... looks like i may have been wrong.

anyway it proved its worth dragging it sorry arse back up the hill :)
 
Do the usual, take front prop off and see if it drives, if not it's the front axle and vice versa for the rear. Good opportunity for your to upgrade to some HD drive flanges and half shafts though ;). That is unless it's the diff, which was what went on mine. Easy enough to change but still a pain in the arse
 
hd shafpts maybe, but personally, unless your going to upgrade everything else id keep with standard flanges, easier and cheaper to keep as the weak point. (the next would be a prop/uj or diff)
 
luckily i have another 110 in the garden i can steal bits off :)

I will whip the rear prop off tonight though and see whats what. I do think its the rear though as the sound was NOTABLY coming from there. Sounded like Dr Evil being reamed whilst having his steel toe capped boots welded to the floor...

Well if you've got a wheel off the ground it will spin freely unless there is something wrong with the centre diff I.e. it's ####ed like my transfer box was, or you have it in diff lock. Easiest way to pinpoint is get the prop off first and figure out which axle it is. If it's the rear just pull each half shaft and have a looksee. My moneys on the diff

If it's an older fender then you can use a 10 spline diff from a disco, front and rear are exactly the same and they cost pennies. I got my last one for 70 but you can get them much cheaper than that. Fitting in the rear shouldn't take any longer than an hour and that's with a brew break
 
easy way to check without jacking any wheel - remove all 4 rubber caps off the flanges, start 110 without difflock engaged - chock wheels front and rear, put in gear with handbrake off, look from the side as to which prop is rotating, then look at the centre off the drive flange to see which shaft is rotating by itself,as JM says more then likely to be drive flange splines worn out. Could even be front cv joint failed.
 
Aye it were the rh rear drive flange. Ordered a replacement pair. Cheers guys. First time I've had this so learning all the time :)
