I decided I would try the 4 wheel drive on Aubrey for the first time today having picked her up a couple of weeks ago....unfortunately it didnt go well! We got stuck in a bit of mud whilst reversing , then she seemed to get stuck in reverse and there was too much play whilst in gear. I couldnt get her out of reverse and when i pulled hard on the gear lever...err..well...the lever snapped off in my hand! (see pic)

Well, at least its prompted me to head down to Machine Mart and invest in some new tools, ramps and axle stands...first job - having a look at the gearbox...although i might have to use my Defender to pull her back onto the hardstanding!

sounds like your issue is just the gear lever , apart from snapping lower ball that engages the selector jaws can wear allowing stick to pop out of jaw when its in gear

How very strange. My SIII did exactly the same about a week after I bought it. Way too close to the ball to get anything onto it to get me home.

As James says, its just the lever mechanism, and that's held on by just four screws once you have the tunnel off.

if you need to move it i got a spare you could use until you get a new 1 im only about 5 miles from you in quedgeley

Thanks for the advice guys. Much appreciated. Next chance I'm going to have to work on her will probably be the weekend so I will let you know how I get on!
Jockmurray - really appreciate the offer. Can I let you know at the weekend as like I said I'm not going to be able to look at her till then as I'm in London for the rest of the week on business.

no problem just remembered they had a 2a in dursley auto breakers the other month might be worth calling them see if they still have it proper old scrappy where you go in the mud and remove bits yourself i had the bean can off it along with the hub drive flanges

so we used my girlfriends step fathers dumper to pull her out of the mud and onto the hardstanding and under cover......new gear lever and knob has arrived from Paddocks...so ready to start this Saturday!
