Hi there. Please go easy on me if I'm doing something wrong - this is my first post...

I have just replaced the front wheel bearings on my 1983 Series 3 SWB 2.25 Diesel (with the later type front axle I believe). It has Superwinch free wheeling hubs and I'm not sure how tight the outer-most castellated nut should be before you insert the clip\pin. It's round, i.e. with no flats so not sure how you do it up anyway? Also, should there be a spacer, o-ring and Spirolox washer under the nut on these hubs like the standard hub? None were fitted when I took it apart but I just want to double-check.

Hope someone can help - thanks!

Hi Andy,

I have an '83 model, petrol (used to be diesel) with same FWH. I'll look up my workshop manual, I think I've got stuff on the FWH. A castellated nut shouldn't require torquing, especially if its locked up with a pin, but I'll check and see what I've got.

Thanks for the replies chaps. Sounds like finger tight is fine then. Ta.

John - any additional info from your manual would be much appreciated. Ta.

Dominic - I don't think I have a felt washer. Is that anything to do with the spacer, o-ring and Spirolox washer I can see on the parts list for the standard hubs that appear to sit behind the castellated nut? (I haven't got those). Where does it go?

Thanks.
