Hi everyone
this might sound a bit daft but my land rover series 3 diesel has sat for about 6 months and the transfer box is refusing to go into high range, you put in in and it just pops straight out again once I lift the clutch, low range works ok in all gears and the oils are ok and i looked in the inspection plate and theres no bits lying around.

also Im having to change the engine from a 3 bearing diesel to a 5 bearing one because the bore and pistons gone, loud knocking and a cracked block.

Please advise

1, any ideas about high range issue
2, is the swap to a 5 bearing engine easy as i guess it bolts straight.

thank you in advance for any advise.

when we had drivers using diff lock or low range on normal roads the gear box would jam we use to jack all four wheels off the ground basically get it on x4 axles stands run the engine and give the stick a good hard tug. worked 99% of the time if you cant run the engine have some one rotate a wheel

5 bearing straight swop, you may have to faff about with the throttle linkage etc.
Consider fitting an electric vacuum pump for the servo brakes this eliminates the dreadful and most likely knackered butterfly flap. £70ish and a couple of hours.
Have you looked at the selector gubbins on the box ? it may just need spraying with WD40 and freeing off, the rods tend to stick if not used for a while.

The polish garage my father chose. Have wound up the gear box.
Some pics of engine I think blow by. Garage broke my engine and gearbox thanks guys.
Lost almost all it oil in 1/2 a mile was clean oil to black sooty poop.
