just got in from my trip to Ireland and while waiting on the dock side at Dublin a defender turned up with a beautiful series one a 1949 model on a trailer and we got chatting as us landy people do and he is taking it to a show of just series ones only at Ashbourne in Derbyshire now I am not far from there and had not heard of this show so I though I would share it with fellow landy lovers.

Nice to see but I never understand why people trailer classics to shows instead of driving them there. Fair enough, trailer a a wreck that's not road legal but if a restored vehicle cannot make it under its own steam then it's little more than ornament.

from what I understood he has only just restored it to its former glory as it had been lying around for 30 years when he discovered it he has all the engine and gear box done as well as the chassis, but I would not like to think I had to drive it all the way from northern Ireland to a show in Derbyshire at about 45 miles an hour when he can do sixty with his trailer and it still arrive in show room condition.

That sounds like Harold McMillan .

I drove there in my 107" trayback . It only took 2 1/2 hours , at 40 mph . Next year I shall trailer it to Sussex , unless it has been re-engined by then . I couldn't cope with the 5 hour+ journey .

looks like its near plumpton racecourse just north of brighton around 24th june.

an event close enough for me to possibly consider thinking about attending :D
