Hi all

So picking my S3 up today and wondered what you guys thought would be my best angel of attack. Things I know I need to do are 2 outriggers, rear crossmember, new clutch M cylinder. Also plan to do a major service and brake refurb. What else should I be doing? It hasn't run for 7 years but engine turns freely.

1 other thing. There is no fuel tank under the passengers seat. Is this common? I always understood there were 2 tanks. Are the easy to install?

Thanks
Jim

109 or 88 ?

Tanks are easy, give it all a good pressure wash so that full inspection of chassis can be done. Other thing to check is the clutch, it may have siezed to the flywheel. A few threads on here about freeing them off.

Here she is ImageUploadedByTapatalk1415375100.406685.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1415375113.022366.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1415375128.489845.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1415375159.205767.jpg

Looks pretty straight! Im rebuilding mine at the moment and theres a thread going on it entitled !The Project has landed" so feel free to give me a shout I might be able to pass on a few tips then again maybe not lol

Seriously get the big jobs done first after a good clean down ie the welding.

Keep updating folk will be happy to follow along and give advice!

Jpas3 as has been said before the chassis on the series 3 rust badly check for this ! Front dumb irons! Rear spring hangers , any accident damage visible by creasing which can eventually crack, check for straightness of chassis! Once you have a good chassis you can then proceed with the replacement and repair of whats required! Check the chrome swivels bad pitting will lead to oil leaks ,steering needs checking for wear in all the associated joints! Visually check how she sits on the road! She should be perfectly level if the springs are in good condition, don't forget they are handed, check also for bi metal corrosion, where aluminum meets steel it can turn aluminium to white powder in some circumstances. Don't forget these landys are like meccano kits they are easy and a real pleasure to work on. It took me 3 years to fully restore mine and ive only just finished but I'm here to help with any advice I can offer. Regards. CHRIS

I would change brake fluid, all diff gbox and tbox oils, new fuel filter before carb, check under dizzy cap and change points rotor and cap if fecked. Fuel tank under or behind drivers seat. Check prop ujs and bushes on springs and so on. Worth seeing if swivels have any grease left in and if ( haha ) you have any oil leaks replace seals accordingly. Also check airbag is present.

A few more pics ImageUploadedByTapatalk1415405648.903208.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1415405663.185150.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1415405683.119166.jpg

Will be changing all lubes and fluids, doing a full brake refurb and all welding. Also, passenger side tank is missing. Is it worth trying to find a second hand on or buying new?

What? Airbag? Is this tiredness or too many beers?:pound:

Yeah dunno why it's been cut. This was a soft top at some point and has been converted to a hard top.

Good day today, fitted two batteries everything electrical works, even the convoy light still works!

Hi all

After the heavy rain last night and me not being any sort of mechanic my personal priority is to get the cab water tight. The door window seals have seen much better day. Is this door top past it or can it bee saved?

Cheers!

Any panel can be saved if you have the necessary skill to do so! If not the replacement is not expensive! And can be obtained from one of the many suppliers available regards. Chris

I would replace it, if it is as bad as that, the bolts that hold it to the door bottom will probably have had it or near to it, try undoing the door top to see if the nuts are seized, one of mine looked similar, I tried to undo the nuts and they just sheared off
