Hi All,

My S3's previous owner removed the dash as it was rotten (and threw it away!). There don't seem to be many decent replacements around, so I'm going to make my own using ply covered in foam/vinyl.

Has anyone tried this before? I'm looking for some inspiration!

Cheers,
Lew

The one on mine was not good and covered with a piece of leather from an old sofa with not bad result:

Had been contemplating doing something similar - filling the cracks & overlaying , so it was good to see a finished article - looks good. Was thinking of sticking with black vinyl as I'd think it's easier to heat up , & stretch into the moulded areas . Wondered if overlaying & increasing the thickness resulted in any difficulty refitting ?

I think there's a market if someone would make moulded plastic ones with the vinyl covering. They could be made to look very much like the originals which are mostly rotten. I suppose that's a consequence of pumping damp air from outside into the cavity.

I bought a very good steel shell at a show last year. I had this re-covered, it came out quite well but not exactly the same as the original.

I saw a new old stock original one for sale on the net but they wanted a about a grand for it.
