I have a 1960 Series 2 88" and the crown and pinion have broken. I have got a front differential out of a LWB Series 3 and it appears to be the same. It has ten spline half shafts and the same number of teeth on the crown wheel.
Is it going to fit? And if so are there any tips/pitfalls to be aware of?
Many thanks.

Rear diff is easy swap. Front bit more involved. An extra pair of hands and the right tools will be handy.

If it's the front you are changing, you either need to strip down the hub to pull the half shafts, or you could spit it at the swivel and keep the hubs assembled. Assuming everything undoes ok it isn't a hard job, just a bit of grunt work.

If the replacement diff has been sitting a while, the pinion seal will likely leak. But might be worth chucking it on first and seeing if it does.

If it's the rear diff it's an oily bugger of a job but doable. Follow workshop manual instructions. At axle stand height its a b'tard to get the diff back in but just a lot of muscle n heave. You will need diff n drive flange gaskets. For S2 its the 10 splined shafts. Make sure u also order/ re-fit the spacers to tighten up the crown nut n fit the slit pin. A gentle tweak to get it in position - see workshop manual. Diff tongue settings are medium tight. Make sure you get the swarf out the bottom of the diff. Easy but satisfying DIY job.
