hi all

i am currently restoring a series 2 land rover! Im about to start on the bulkhead which i have bought as a better replacement. There is minimal rust throughout however it is need of some tlc in the shelf area. Can the shelf part be removed to be fixed up? I'm guessing it will be spot welded in somehow and just wondered if anybody could give me a good starting point to getting it apart to be repaired

will put some pics up to help explain what i mean

cheers

Hi

Don't believe you can remove these at all. Let's have some photos.

You are not too far from me, have we passed each other before?

i don't recognize your land rover but we probably have passed

as you can see in the photos there is what appears to be an l shape that sits on top of what is the shelf as id call it. there is also one of these underneath suggesting that if i could remove them then the shelf piece would come off whole? it does seem hard to do as id never no where it was welded just wondered if anybody could help that was all. failing that Il just have to be very careful and try and repair it without damaging anything around where i cut out

many thanks

They are usually spot welded each spot weld leaves a small dimple that can normally be seen , Buy a spot weld drill to drill them out. the ones in the channel will be difficult to access with drill.
try a wire brush attachment to remove rust and you might be able to spot them have parted spot welds on bulkhead by placing a small chisel between the two sheets of steel and forcing them apart but using that method will pull the weld section from the weakest side noy necesarrily the side you want.
