Replace rear tub floor and supports

Had a look under the 88 the other day and decided it was time the back floor was sorted. One support has rotted away completely, another is just rust, the other doesn't look like it will last another winter.

So far, managed to pull up the rear tailgate seal and what looks like a bodged carpet joiner on top of that.

Not shown in the pictures because we were too ****ed off and it was too dark was the three hours it took me and a helper to remove the roll bar, it's a mahoosive fecking thing with 10 M12x200mm bolts. I could hardly lift my pint this afternoon and the bloke who helped has a very funny shaped little finger after all the bar and hammer work.

More pics to follow, not sure about chequer plate but it should be a bit tougher than the original which I'd managed to dent and gash. The new foot wells are for the 109 project. The new tool box bits might end up on the 88 as its looking ready to scatter all my underseat belongings down the road at any point...

Looks good, I'm currently in the process of rebuilding my rear tub. Can I ask where did you get the galvanised crossmembers from? I've been quoted £106 for 6 normal ones which seems pretty steep!

Well, didn't get very far yesterday - ended up emptying my bus. The poor thing is going to be dragged away for scrap in the next few weeks. Such a shame really, it wouldn't take much to get it back on the road - they usual brake servicing, possibly replace slave cylinders and a bit of tarting up inside. I've got sick of trying to find somewhere to keep it and I've had so many offers only for people to pull out at the last minute.

Anyway, it's got to go before the Tour de France as it is taking up valuable camping / parking space....

Hopefully will have some more pictures of floor work this evening

A bit further today, ground off all of the rivets holding the supports to the floor....or at least thought I had. Some at the back and front look to be countersunk and a right **** to drill out. In the end I gave up the gentle approach and attacked it all with a set of chisels, one chisel was actually a 5' length of steel stock that I sharpened up.

The floor is not just riveted in but spot welded too, so I had to run the chisel along the length of the seat bases and the floor popping the spot welds. I managed to do this without making too much mess on the drivers side but it chewed the n/s up, Ill probably glue some ally angle to that to fix it.

Also, I had to chop the new floor down to size, and cock about marking the holes for the roll bar to go back on.

So, the bit that I thought would take half an hour or so ended up taking 6 hours....and I'm knackered. It would have been a lot easier with a helper...

On the plus side, I expected to find all sorts of horrors on top of the chassis rails but they look completely sound...not attacked them with a screwdriver yet but I didn't fall through them....

Think I might have to sort the exhaust out while its easy though...

Just repaired my floor support last week...my mate bought the YRM type supports and found then badly twisted and sent them back...are yours ok???

I just used 1" square section welded from chassis rail to chassis rail...would have liked to keep it std but just haven't got the time...I had to pop rivet some alloy plate over some local corrosion on the tub floor...passed its MOT yesterday no probs.

Got it more or less finished tonight, what a **** of a job. I'm absolutely buggered. lots of rolling around on the floor drilling holes and swearing. Like a lot of these jobs wouldn't have been such a back breaker with someone holding the other spanner.
