Hi, guys!

Now I'm rebuilding my series 3 109". I want to swap engine to 300(Di/TDi), my question is:

If I couple 300tdi with series gearbox and will use gearbox mounting points as a referent points for placing engine mounts, can I in future replace gearbox to r380 without doing anything with engine mounts? And also shoud I make a custom mounts for gearbox?

Sorry for my english guys, I'm from Russia)

Thank you!

As you would have to remake gear box mounts to change from series to R380 gearbox it's likely you could keep engine mounts. But it is also likely position will be wrong for both prop shafts.
I would put in 300/R380 in one go in the correct position for front prop to remain standard.
With 300/R380 grill will have to forward.
Standard R380 mounts should be ok as chassis rails ar the same distance apart on series and later vehicles.

Thank you!
How about using short bell housing for r380? Mb in this case there is no need to move grill section?

I understand correctly that the easiest(and right) way is to use for 300tdi+r380 geniune gearbox mountings points?

If you want go the the easy route then a 200TDI/LT77 gearbox [short bell housing] from 90/110 is the way. As for mounting a R380/LT77 use the standard bolt on mountings but drill holes in chassis where you need them.good to put stiffening plate on the outside of chassis.

Onto what trans box though? Does an r380 fit a series trans case? I'd be surprised if it does witjout mods?. If not then an lt230 or borg warner could be used with props to suit. It would be permanent 4wd but as long as your ujs are ok in front axle, ive heard they cope ok.
Ive heard the series trans case is quite beefy so if you could get an r380 on it, a 300tdi shouldnt stress it. Forget lt77 they arent as nice as r380 and wear mainshafts and input gears.
