Please look at photos attached , Im new to all this and learning the hard way , I've noticed that the pipe on the top of the carb is loose , the metal ring that that the pipe tightens around is in excellent condition however when you tighten the screw and the clip tightens (which it does) you can then just lift it off the carb , any advice would be appreciated , thanks

I don't know if it's standard but on mine there is a short length of rubber hose which fits over the air intake pipe (1 clip) and the top of the carb (2nd clip). That way you are tightening the clip on a rubber hose not a metal pipe. It may not be original but it works!

Mine did this. I got a new silicon hose/sleeve of eBay and 2 new jubilee clips and problem solved. The new silicon is a tighter fit anyway and stays on the carb even without the jubilee clip.

Its the same as Robert P describes , it does actually tighten however the metal ring it tightens around doesn't actually tighten itself therefore you can just lift pipe off which still has ring attached to it but the actual ring hasn't tightened to secure it to anything

Just to add a final photo, you can see that the problem isn't the rubber fitting , the fitting is sound and tightens around the ring , the problem is that the ring isn't attached the the carb so its not secure and even lifts off over bumpy ground.
