Oil Catch Air Box with 200tdi???

Sorry guys, I am wanting to fit an air filter box to the 200tdi in my Series 2a, I was going to try and fit the plastic box of an old Discover 300tdi I kept for spares but found someone that has original Series oil catch filter boxs, I cannot put up with the hi pitch whistle from the Max Power cone filter that the previous owner had fitted its deafening, any advice as always muchly appreciated

i use the old 90na airbox with its legs cutoff in my 2a, having cut the legs off it lays nicely on the passenger footwell with a little padding underneath to stop rattles

the 90 airbox is about an inch shorter than the 200 disco one which you'll struggle to fit on the footwell but still allows the engine to breathe properly

I am unsure about the Oil Bath type filter as I have never seen them and dont know what the oil bath bit does, would it feed the turbo and cause the Engine to run away?

I dont think it will sit on the foot well as it will be closer to the radiator due to the turbo

the oil bath filter has a puddle of oil in the bottom to catch the dirt

the filter i was describing (90na) is a paper element type, i put mine on the footwell in my 109 2a

i have a 200tdi disco filter under the bonnet of my 88" bitsa strapped on top of the engine, it's messy but it filters the crap out of the air

where "you" choose to mount yours is up to "you", i just gave a suggestion and the reason i used the 90na airbox in my 2a

I'd try it. They're quiet, flow quite well and don't need new filters. I doubt there spittle be any rammer of it running the engine on. Paper filters are cheaper to make and fit and are a steady source of revenue for manufacturers from replacement filters....

Had an oil one on my 200di and with no cone filter prior it found it noisy the turbo will demand more air and noisier.

I have two oil bath filters available if you want one but shipping to Shetland will not be cheap.

Nite Mare, I am still trying to find out if my 1969 s2a is supposed to have a s2 Bulkhead and frontend or the s3 style front it is wearing now, so not realy needing perminant fixture as yet, if I have to swap it for my s2 front end then I will probly go for the Oil Bath

Blackburn, the Oil Bath looks tidy with the 200di, however you sure it is discovery filter or defender? Disco 1 300tdi one I have is square plastic one, I realy do like how you have it though whether it be defender/disco, just cannot seem to find one on auction site

a '69 2a is supposed to have the lights in the wings similar to the S3 and would originally have had a single wiper motor and cable drive to operate the wipers but who knows what has been changed in the last 40+ years

the 200tdi airfilter is as pictured above (without a cone filter), the square plastic housing comes from a 300tdi

Your 69 series 2a should have clocks in the center of bulkhead and series 3 type front but with wire mesh grill.

If that is your bus in the pic Paul G then n/s wing is series 3 with heater intake in it.

Mine has the S3 Bulkhead and front wing with heater in it, I was thinking to fit the S2 bulkhead and Smiths heater from my S2 project but might just keep them both how they are.

That is true, I would imagine the 300tdi one would be a hell of a lot quieter, I might give it a shot and see how out of place it looks, if it looks ok it will stay

easiest one to put under a Series bonnet is the 200 airbox, it can be welded to or strapped down, it's not too bulky or odd shaped unlike the 300 airbox

i have a 300 airbox laying in my pile of junk, eventually i guess i'll get round to throwing it away as i can't really see a sensible use for it or place to fit it except under a disco bonnet
