Sorry about that then, I just thought the series 2a bulkhead, I like bitsa though very smart, wouldn't mind mine looking like that, sale fell through on mine today but I'm happy as he paid the deposit so 125 quid to me.

the wobbly stick could also be the two small bolts fixing it to the bellhousing, mine was wobbly and jumping out of reverse, tightened em up and fine now

At the far end of the gearstick where it locates into the selectors of the gearbox (opposite end to the knob) should be a nylon ring pressed on. These fall off over time giving a loose feel to the gear change, and a wobbly stick.
