Sorry - having just joined the forum I'm a bit late to the party.

I'd like to know if people think painting with red oxide is worth the hassle these days. Lots of newer chassis paint products are available these days that are meant to do a good job.

Experiences?

Just use a zinc rich paint, red oxide is just red primer with a fancy sounding name ( rust brown doesn't quite sound the same).

where i come from i use red oxide primer only reason why is the red oxide i use is rich with zinc, most red oxides in my country use zinc in them for extra protection.

It seems red oxide in this country contains mainly red lol
i wonder if you could use the red oxide they use when undercoating ships and other steel vessels, as they should contain zinc to inhibit corrosion that may form on bare metal on new-builds. or get a paint that has zinc phosphate in it that will work well,

Tony.

There are quite a few spin offs from the marine world that have zinc content. I've not tried the marine stuff - some of it needs stricter health and safety than 2 pack paint and that's bad enough.

Looks bostin......especially with the green woodstain on it

Nowt wrong with a bit of wood stain, well not unless ya Landie is sand coloured and happened to be parked next to ya fence while you had a frenzied fence spraying sesh...
When people point, laff and generally take the pish i tell 'em it's light camouflage!
