Hi all, picked up my first series landy at the weekend, just thought i'd post a pic up, and hopefully get some advice eventually but i have found most of the information so far using the search. Dubbed 'furby' from the plate from the other half, currently has a very unhealthy 2.25d fitted (which i'm on the hunt for a replacement if anyone knows of any, suspected valve guides gone pumping oil back into the rocker).
She's currently on parobolic spring with procomps, weller steels, hardtop.
Plans are to get another 2.25d in there to get it on the road, and to niggle out problems. Then eventually to add an overdrive system with a defender 200tdi and to source some original steels and eventually tidy it up. Me and the other half have already started tidying up the interior and i can't wait to get it on the road now :D
Just ordered a period plate from tippers vintage plates to get rid of the nasty pvc plate, and been busy on ebay this morning buying bits and bobs.
Anyways heres a pic just to show you what its like.

Roughly where are you located , an old fellow had a couple of 2.25 diesels on tyneside awhile back might be still there.

Thanks chaps, she's pretty tidy, few bits need abit of tlc and she will be nice.
For the wheels I'm putting the spare back onto the bonnet and eventually getting some original steels that I might potentially get banded, but that's just an idea in my head atm.
My location is essex so could do with one being in the south east really :)

Be careful with the London low emission zone with this vehicle. As far as I know, taking it inside the M25 = £200 fine per day.

Really nice. I'm about to have mine restored (I also have marine blue) Mine has a 300tdi. I'm let you know how I get on. O/D being fitted

Blimey didn't know that thanks for the heads up! But i generally avoid london like the plague lol, i'm not far from the underground system so just jump on the train if i need to get into the capital :)

Glad to see you fitting std wheels...the only thing that looks right wheel wise IMHO.

Exactly what i think, glad its not just me that gets excited about old rusty steel wheels :5bcheers2:

Don't get me wrong the wellers look ok and fill the arches nicely but i like the period look, thats why i went with a series. I'm going to ask santa for some sereis steels and see what happens lol.

Theres quite a large group of landy lovers down my way and we are always going for exbiditions into wales in well equipped off road discos and range rover classics, i've bought this just to pootle about in and go for a sunday drive down some of my favourite byways in thetford forest.

Nice!! I have a donar disco with a manual 300tdi sat in it but been advised to go for a defender 200tdi for ease on conversions. My brothers got a 1978 series 3 109 with a 300tdi and that thing absolutely flies haha. Any pictures/build pics bud?

Just about to begin so will post. I'm having a 109 front axle put on to cope with better breaks. You are right the conversion of the 200 is much easier.

She looks a beauty! Definitely need some standard steels back on mine!
I'm not overly clued up on the brake upgrade situation but i was under the impression that because mines a 1982 it already has the 11" brake setup up front. This is just from dribs and drabs i have read though and i don't believe much that i read on the internet anyways lol

I'm going for full galvanised swap and bespoke exmoor trim. Having a Capstan winch and O/D. Im getting carried away

Just make sure you stay outside the M25.

A mate of mine took another old diesel vehicle (not a Land Rover) into London for a Royal British Legion event. He also wasn't aware of this and got a £200 fine. I think they keep it poorly publicised on purpose as a way to raise money.

I think you may be able to get an exemption if the vehicle is under 3.5 Tons Max Gross Weight, as someone else I know did with a 1993 Defender 90. Apparently his logbook said 3499kg so he was able to get a letter of exemption from the DVLA.

The low emission zone also applies to all diesel commercial vehicles made before 2001. Land Rovers get caught as vans if they weren't made with seats in the back. This means that an original series station wagon would be fine. However, a van sided one with exactly the same engine wouldn't be. Vehicles made before 1st Jan 1973 are also exempt.

and to source some original steels I also have a 90 G REG 19J engine usually have a poor reputation but well look after known history, very low miles too.

I have some 750R16 old school mud terrain tyres not that old too plenty of tread, drop us a text if you want, 07880220904

HANG ON A MIN!!!!! pre 82-83 are we not emission exempt? and does that not include London zone?:mad:

no.

lez exemption is as webley said pre 1st jan 1973, it doesn't appear to be rolling forward as the rfl exemption does unless tfl just haven't updated their website
