Might have taken Morton Ford a bit quick...

I took Itchy down to Morton Ford in the week. I was a bit keen to wash all the brake fluid off the hubs but might have been a bit too quick on my crossing...

Did a bit of service yesterday and look what I found in the oil bath.

That's got to be an advantage of the ol' oil bath; water has got a long way to travel before it can gets into the enjun. Most would have stayed down in the oil. Funny thing was that I really wasn't going that fast when I went across and it wasn't that deep.

I've never seen something like this happen through Morton Ford! Its almost a crossing that you can drive a normal car through at some points in the year... ;)

I had something similar happen near me although that was in a defender 200tdi , when offroad I broke an engine mount which pulled the pipe off the snorkel going in deep water, lots of smoke/steam ! disconnected the filter so I could get it back on the road for a recovery lorry , when back at the workshop found my filter was sodden :frusty:

The oil bath filter gives warning of water getting in as the oil floats on top of it going into the engine first and resulting in lots of blue smoke.Water splash hits the underside of the bonnet and then can enter filter.

At some times of the year, although the bottom is quite shingley and I wouldn't fancy trying it as there are often holes in there cause by eddies. I've also seen it up to the height of the footbridge and you wouldn't want to drive anything short of a Unimog through it then..!

so you use rivers to clean off brake fluid? not particularly good for the fish or wildlife i would have thought.

I second that ,totally irresponsible

when I blew me header tank all I had was an antifreeze can and a cable tie bag, I used the antifreeze and water mix ( from can ) then used the cable tie bad to chuck water in the can and shake it , empty that into engine and repeat a few times, before then sticking the can in the river, not ideal but was stuck in a forest miles from anywhere with no signal at 2am

I realise getting myself in that situation sounds slightly irresponsible by the way

Kinnel, what a pair of self righteous nobs! All I was saying (in a light-hearted manner) that after all the work I've been doing on the brakes over the past few months, washing off the residue was an excuse to go splashing through a long deep(ish) ford. I mean, do you wash every remnant of fluid, grease, oil off your Landy before taking into water. And what do you do with what you wash it off with? I mean you can't let that go down the drain, can you?

And what on earth are you blethering on about an antifreeze can? WTF has that got to do with anything..?

You have shown yourself to be a p***** before this just reinforces that image.

How, exactly? By saying that I went through a ford with some brake fluid residue on my hubs ?

(And of course I gave 'em a wash first, I wouldn't leave brake fluid festering on my Landy now, would I).

Now, jog on and watch yer potty mouth.

You never said it was just residue in your original post, it sort of reads like there was quite a bit of fluid on the hubs, I think that might be part of the cause of the criticism

Also how fast were you going through it to get it up there? :D
