Is it possible to split a lt77 5speed box from a permanent 4x4 transfer box and attach it to a series selectable transfer box?

Will it bolt up to the bell housing on my 200tdi engine or would I need to use the bell housing it is on connected to the 2.25 petrol engine

The lt77 will bolt to the 200tdi the series transfer box bolts to the back of the LT77 with the use of the Ashcroft conversion plate. But the gearbox is 4ins longer so the engine has to move 4 inches forward which is a bit tight.

I was told that series axles cannot handle permanent 4x4, plus I want to keep the interior looking standard

A heap of "pub experts" will tell you that despite never having done it.... I've been running it for the last few years with no problems....
The worst is a small amount of feedback through the steering wheel on very tight turns on dry tarmac.
You lose the red/yellow levers and use a slightly trimmed defender transmission tunnel.
Custom propshafts and an adjusted gearbox xmember.

Drives very nicely though AND very stable in the wet.

All horses for courses though.... It's THE route the 2a station wagon will be going along with 300 TDI power.

An engineer would say a production car needs a cv joint front axle for permanent 4wd. But a runabout diy job isnt the same thing. One works better than the other, but they both work.
