Can i use the Classic oil From Halfords 20w50 in my 2.25 petrol? ( Currently on offer!)
Going to attempt my first oil change since buying the landy any top tips?
is it worth taking the sump off and checking cleaning?

also any difference in all the brands for oil filters..

The Halfords oil will be fine. I've used this stuff before and in my experience all filters are fine but good to get a known brand.
Not a bad idea to take the sump off for a clean but resealing again can be a little tricky! Would obviously need a new sump gasket.

Id just warm it up, get oil hot, drive it perhaps, then drain and fill as any other car.
I dont like Halfrauds own oil filters, very flimsy, Ive even seen swarf on the thread. Buy a brand, any brand. The Champion ones at H will be fine, if they still sell them.
I wouldnt drop a sump unless necessary, you;ll have oil dripping all over you, never get it to seal properly etc

I used to use the halfords classic stuff for my 2.25, I liked how it came in a can of it instead of the plastic. As said warm the oil up to get it to flow more easily.
I had a bastard of a time trying to get the oil filter housing back on, could never get the O ring seal to work. In the end I just used instant gasket and it worked fine.

Use grease to hold o ring in place. When refitting housing do the bolt up until there is a couple of mm gap and push the housing home with your hand. Feel it into the groove and it should sit firmly. Hold it still and nip the bolt up... Not too tight

A lot easier than a spoon on in my opinion and you get a free sleeve full of hot oil when you take the old one off!

The cheapest oil they sell... in the most expensive packaging.

This tells you a lot about the quality of the contents. No wonder Halfords recommend it be changed every 2-3,000 miles on their website...

I always use the Carlube Daytona 20w50 oil from B&Q. Its £10.98 for 4.5 L. Exactly the same stuff is £18 from GSF. If you know someone with a B&Q OAP card you can get 10% off too. Its so cheap I change it regularly and not had a problem.

About 3 years ago I was told that Halfords classic oil is made for them by Comma. Their oils are supposed to be ok.

i have been using the halfords classic oil for years with no issues dont like halfords but dont mind when the classic oil is on offer

Whatever you do you will get oil everywhere. Top tip is to lay a large sheet of cardboard or something disposable under the engine before you start. The sump is easy enough but the oil from the filter splashes everywhere. Also you will need more than one can of oil - about ten pints from memory for sump and filter. The oil you mention is still a gallon, but a lot of oils now are sold in sneaky 4-litre cans, not 5 as before.
