Glow Plug Problem ??

Hi all

Had my 1972 series 3 diesel in the garage last week. MOT. New speedo cable, brakes cleaned up and a diesel leak sorted round the injector nearest the bulkhead.

Since I got it back - it's much slower to start. The amber "glow-plug" light still comes on, but the starter motor seems to need to turn over the engine for 5-10 secs before it fires. Thought it's likely to be a glow plug issue. Starts quickly once the engine's warm.

Any tips for a bit of diagnosis ?

Cheers

Have you checked the terminals are all connected and tight ? Are they still wired as original ie in series or have they been changed to parallel wiring ? In series if one fails they all stop working just like christmas tree lights used to, the advantage of this is that you know about it and fix it. Wired in parallel they still work if one or more fail.
Have you made sure that all the air is out of the fuel system ? as it has just been disturbed it could be drawing air in. Make sure all the sealing washers are fitted to the leak off rail and injector pipes are tight, don't over tighten the injector unions though.
