just about finished another project and fuel gauge was working great, then it just goes right to full when ignition switched on, i have tried disconnecting the tank connection but still goes over the onle thing i can think of is the voltage stabliser, now i no its situated behind the fuel gauge on a series three , but on a two can't find it,anybod know were it lives, its a 1962 series 2,

So the gauge is reading over full even when the tank connection is unplugged? Must a short somewhere.

Edit: I mean I would think that the wire running from the gauge to the tank is shorting. Maybe the wire has split or broken completely.

still got same problem, gauge going straight to full even when tank disconnected, as per my first thread, does anybody know were the voltage stabliser is situated on a 1962 series 2?

it would affect the whole dash as well, so temp gauge would be off as well. i'd be checking my earths are alright and then follow the wires for a short

Did you look for a short? You could try running a wire straight from the gauge to the tank and see if the gauge works then. The existing wire could be awkward to check in-situ as it's in some hidden bits.

i am pretty sure its the stabliser, (that i cant find ), i am going to run a new feed through another stableiser i have got to the gauge, at least that will eliminate that

Oh that is a thought actually. There are two kinds of gauges. One of them creeps up towards its final value when you turn on the ignition, the other will instantly spring there.

The creeping one I guess doesn't need the regulator because any blips in voltage would take a while to move it anyway. Which kind have you got TC?

ok, so no stableiser on the series 2, so its coming back to the wire from the tank sender probably trapped and going straight to earth, ill check that out tomorrow, but thanks for your input everybody

Ok it's not the wire from the tank, if I touch the feed wire to the appropriate connection on back of gauge the needle shoots straight over to full, even with no wire connected to the other connection
