hello again, I was here years ago, but now I'm back. I've still got my 109 ffr (which it now isn't. its 12v with all the army ****e took off ). it has a perfectly good 2.25 petrol in it, but and don't shout at me, will a vm engine from a rr go straight in or will I need adaptor plates etc? reason I ask is a friend of mine has a new vm on a pallet and I can have it.
helpful advice would be greatly appreciated. the reason I say this is when I proposed to put range rover power steering on my 109 I got called names and allsorts, so if that's all you can do then don't bother. (the rr system works great by the way)
I have a shedload of parts from the ffr If anyone is doing a 109 up by the way, just message me. I may not be able to get straight back to you but I will. thanks geoff

can't help with advice on the convo, but its your truck you do what you want to it, that's half the fun of landies imho, life would be pretty boring if they were all as they left the factory.

if some people don't like what you do that's their issue :D

thanks for the encouragement , but as far as the tdi goes it's a case of no money for the landy, everything has to be cheap, made or free. so it's find out about the vm or stick with the petrol. wife doesn't see the value in landies!! geoff

Which VM is it? The 2.5 VM made 121bhp stock vs the 107/111bhp for a Tdi. So no reason to not use it based on HP.

As far as the swap goes, depends how much effort you want to put into it. As I doubt very much you'll find many guides on doing it.

The VM was mated to the Lt-77 I think, so would sound promising to fitting to a Series box, although you might have to drill a few studs or something (you do to fit a Tdi anyhow). The rest I think you'll have to fabricate and use trial and error. But I suspect you'll be needing to weld or cut at least something.

welding cutting machining I can do, that doesn't worry me, what I would have liked to do was talk to somebody who has done this to a s3 or at least someone who knows what will fit or not. at this moment I don't know whether it's a 2.4 or a 2.5, but I know that it was bought to fit a range rover (and it's free !!) geoff

I have spoken to a few people "who know" and it would seem that this one is dead in the water, so I shall be sticking to my petrol until someone comes up with a better idea. anybody want a vm diesel (cheap)? geoff

It will work. There are people running all sorts of engines in Series motors. But this isn't a common swap. So you'll have to path find some of it.

tuning petrols is what we do, although not usually landies. I did a favour for a lad and he said , oh I've got this rr diesel on a pallet and I thought with it being in the family so to speak it would be a simple matter. obviously not. I know nothing is impossible so I may give it some consideration. I suppose it depends on how good the engine is, watch this space geoff
