Hi guys

has anyone ever converted a discovery's running gear onto a series, engine, gearbox, transfer box, and axles, im not thinking convert my series to coils im thinking convert the disco axles into leafy ones, basically grind the coil seats off. I know its a lot of work but a series with power steering and an lt77 200tdi lump it sounds perfect for me

any help would be good, besides im going to give it a go anyway :D

I have a disco R380 that I intend to put into my series. (project on hold while I wait for a new chassis to build on). The disco box is about 10" longer than the series box, and the gear stick is quite far back. The transfer box is about the same flange-to-flange dimension as the series.
I would guess the disco LT77 is the same dimensions as the R380. You may be better looking out for a defender LT77.
Something that springs to mind is the DVLA rules on vehicle identities - the way I understand it, if they know you have changed engine, gearbox, axles and steering then they would put you on a 'Q' plate. So I am keeping steering and suspension original to keep the original ID.

Hmm maybe just the axles and engine/gearbox set up is best then to avoid an SVA, i was thinking running a defender lt77 and defender 90 propshafts with the disco transfer box, engine and axles

The defender LT77 is supposed to be an easy fit, and the Disco transfer box has the higher ratios, together with the brakes and diffs from the Disco axles it sounds like the perfect combination.
I assume you're doing this to an old series and it'll be tax exempt. In my opinion it doesn't get any better than that!!

yeah its on a 1962 series 2a im just trying to decide if its worth converting to coils or not to bother, its a lot of work but im not sure if the benefits outweigh the time involved in the build

buy a defender if you want coils.........

and you wont fit a defender lt77 into a series swb either without a lot of faffing.....which means chassis modification

Agreed. Better was would be to put a series body on a defender chassis, if you want the classic look.
