This is referring to the 1972 Series 3 SWB chassis that I mentioned in the other thread.

I have read on here that the chassis number should be on the RH front dumb iron. However, this has been replaced at some time and I doubt they bothered stamping anything on the new one.

Is it likely to have numbers on it anywhere else? If I cut the old chassis up and send it for scrap, could someone possibly find the number and try to register another vehicle using the number?

For me, getting it to somewhere that it could be shredded or crushed, and personally seeing this happen would be the most secure way I could think of.

Thanks for any info.

it is only on the front leg if your worried grind that area away

I remember reading on here that it wasn't compulsory for UK vehicles to have a chassis number until 1978 (if I remember the date right).

Although my Landy was registered in 1972, did they still stamp one on there at manufacture?

If it does have one, I have seen it recommended on here that you should keep the part of the original chassis with it on as proof that it was destroyed. Is that necessary.

never looked on my s3 but the s1 built in 1955 has the numbe stamped on the front passenger side near the spring hanger, afaik all original chassis were stamped.

if it were me I wouldn't bother to keep any bit of it
