Hi just popped down to the shops and got back in to go flat battery! thank god for the starter handle question is do halfords have batterys for ser 3 try ed searching but cant find one so to date of owning the 88 reverse lights stopped working exhaust blowing (new back section bought) free wheeling hub stuck on 4x4 not looked yet! A good start so far

I asked the very same question and never got a definative answer...the one in my series came from a 300tdi disco...have a look on the side of the battery for the output of it :D

Think it was an 072 I got for mine but the +/- terminals were the other way round and only just managed to stretch the wiring enough to reach.......turned out wasn't my battery anyway.........main feed from battery to starter was corroded so had a big voltage drop.
Spent ages cleaning contacts and stuff and helped a bit but wasn't cured till I got a new cable

Are you sure its the battery? Have you checked Alt etc?

I think its the battery voltage drops as starter goes slower if you know what I mean found the invoice for bat and its dated 2004 came with all history so it is pointing to bat thanks Have to wait for the wife coming in before I go to halfords shes got the money lol

Any battery with round terminals on the right way round and the right size will fit - as big a capacity as you can afford. Mind you, it doesn't take that much to crank over a petrol engine and there's nothing on a landy to run the battery down when it's switched off (unless the alternator is faulty)

Wife went in to halfords on the way home from work! they only had the 072 on database for land rover. It is british code 069! He could' nt understand! computer says no! as you said terminals wrong way round on 072 said he would phone head office and to phone back on Monday ffs I will order one online any recommendations ?

I posted a similar thread a month ago...and resolved it thus:

Well....after failing to get her to even start on a portable pack I went to buy a new battery...Euro Car Parts couldn't find one for me, UNIPART wanted £112 quid for another lead-acid unit with a 3 year warranty...so I went to Halfrauds and spoke to a guy who knows about cars and is over 40 ! (instead of the usual spotty 14 year old) I bought one of their Calcium batteries which has a 4 year warranty - £99. Their online catalogue doesn't even list a 76' S3 SWB...but the guy knew what would work...got a HCB072...fits perfectly...and she burst into life first time...checked the output on high revs and it is showing about 14v so the alternator should be OK. If any of you have ever wondered what to do with a bust battery...a really old guy who laid a tarmac drive for me a few years ago poured the acid from one onto the ground before laying the hardcore....the best weedkiller ever..stops anything from growing up through fresh tarmac or concrete. Not very 'environmentally friendly'...but if I gave a toss about that I wouldn't own an old landy !!
