D2 owner liking this S3...is it a good one?

Hi all series owners/enthusiasts. Just been looking at this Series III

Land Rover Defender 110 SERIES III 109 PICKUP | Autobazar.sk

Is it a good one and worth the money? Though I understand three photos aren't really enough. Thinking of buying it but wanted opinions of those that know there stuff. Series Landies are very rare in Slovakia, so I have only 1 to choose from I imported my D2 from UK and I can't be bothered with the paperwork again.

Impossible to say from those pics really, pics of the underside and chassis are needed to get much idea of value. It doesn't help that I cant read what they have said about it because it is in Slovakian. I like to drive any old vehicle before buying.

Having said that, 4000euro doesn't seem like a lot of money if they are very rare!

I have no idea of value, especially if there aren't many in the country, but for me to hand over 4k euro's the chassis and bulkhead would need to be in excellent condition.

4k euro's is about £3k, and over here you could get a decent landy with a full years mot for less than £3k

a U.K. mot isn't worth the paper it's written on when buying an old landrover as that isn't a guarantee of condition either

you really do need to go and examine that landrover in person, take a small hammer and a long screwdriver to check the chassis over carefully, check the bulkhead over carefully for rot and filler as well

and then if it needs repairs anywhere you then have to decide if it's within your capabilities or can afford to pay someone to do it for you

the engine and gearbox will also need assessing so get out there and drive it, see if the gearbox is nice or going to soon require a rebuild, see how the engine pulls and does it breathe heavily etc'

if these vehicles are as rare out there as you suggest then you are unlikely to have the ease of secondhand spares that we enjoy here in the U.K.

i prefer a 109 to the 88" as a daily driver so this motor would be more interesting to me out there but it MUST be examined carefully due to the possible expense of rebuilding (a new galvanised 109 chassis is almost £2000 here, you would have to add transportation costs to that if buying from Richards Chassis if one was needed)

i've not really been much help, only you can make the final decision

I'd stay well clear of that one.....it's got a side light out. ;-)
