hi every one,
i have a problem yesterday we trailered my series 3 diesel back and as we removed the car off the trailer the brakes stopped working so we had to use the hand break.

the car suddenly stopped locking up the wheels, we disengaged the transfer box and its in neutral and the handbrake is off, so we pushed it backwards fine as usual but we can not push it forward unless we tow it and there is a metal on metal rubbing noise.

any ideas what it could be. could a handbrake shoe come loose and jam it going in one direction.

please help

Broken brake return spring? It would cause the grinding noise. I had a weak spring on mine which let one of the wheels lock in reverse.

Jack each wheel up in turn, and see if it's one wheel causing the problem. As you try to turn the wheel you've lifted, see if the prop is trying to turn. You should be able to work out if it's a wheel brake / handbrake / axle / transmission issue.
