Brake Switch.... .

After ordering a new one and finding them flaming expensive

Bearmach Land Rover Series 3 Brake Light Switch with Servo 575166 | eBay

I was shocked to find out I have already crunched the new one in changing the clutch master cylinder. I must have lent on the bleeding thing.... What a mad place to put it... .

It seems a little loose not but I will perhaps pop some solder on it... Does anyone else have the same issue ? Is there no cover or something I am missing ? Its just begging to be crunched.

err say what.. its working fine but as the terminals points straight up I elbowed it when doing the whole injectors/timing fuel etc etc.. and lastly on the clutch cylinder, Its just begging to be lent on. I just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing a cover.

No cover - they are vulnerable!

There are also a lot of duff ones in the market. I bought two genuine lucas ones last year and both wouldn't adjust properly and I ended up sourcing a new 'old stock' item.

I found with two of them I bought, the contact point where the pin switch would make the contact to illuminate the lights was slightly different to the point where the contact was broken and the lights would switch off. The result was that you would think you had adjusted correctly and the lights would stay on. Spent ages trying to overcome this simple issue before binning two new brass lucas switches.

I've had similar problems and only a NOS one would work. The dodgy ones were a pain to adjust and would go out of adjustment fairly soon and then coke up and stop working within a few weeks. The genuine NOS one has lasted well and not needed adjustment....it does have bent over terminals though!

Thanks chaps, I will add it to the same category as my Defender door striker plate grabbing either my overalls pocket or belt loops on my trousers on entry to the vehicle for fun.
