Just jacked the landy up earlier, and noticed a diesel leak when the engine is running. Traced it to this bit, can anyone please tell me what this bit is, why it might be leaking and a possible fix? Couldn't find it noted in the workshop manuals. Cheers.

OK, after doing a bit more research, is it worth rebuilding the unit with new o-rings and gasket or should I just bite the bullet and replace the whole thing?

the simple seal rebuild kit is a kinda lottery, for some worked well for others not... if you want to go cheaper than new unit get a rebuild kit which contains the regulator too like this Fuel Pressure Regulator Gasket 4 Bar Land Rover Discovery II 2 TD5 Defender | eBay cos there is a quite big chance that the membrane in it is the problem then the o-rings/gasket won't help, the 100% certain but a bit expensive way is new OE unit

Replaced mine when I first got the car as it was leaking.5 yrs/40,000 miles later no leaking, but after replacing everything else from the pump forward, trying to fix a problem mentioned elsewhere on here, finally replaced it,160 quid, and problem solved....so far.Make sure you check, unlike me,if it's the 2 pipe or 3 pipe version before travelling 20 miles on a motorbike to bring the wrong one home.Embarressing taking it back to swap!

I ended up just buying a rebuild kit off flea bay in the UK, as it only cost about $60, as opposed to $600-$700 for a whole new unit in NZ. Done about 1000km so far, and no leaks!
The job wasn't too difficult, I just put some foam sheet accross the top of the engine and lay on it!
