lots of smoke from the alternator ? bang !

right so i put a new fan belt on, ( its in a series so its a bodge job !) i fired her up and a blue white smoke came from alternator and some burining smell.... so what do you reckons up with it ?

it burnt my new fan belt in half !

the engine sort of coughed before it revved when the smoke was going ??

ah right .... so if i take it to a re wind place reckon they would sort it ?

also could this be as i may have done the terminals the wrong way ? and has anyone got the wiring diagram !!
