Default discovery 1 v8 starting problems

can anyone help. i have been driven to dispare by my 1996 3.9 v8. i tried to start it about a week ago and it turned over but would not fire. changed the dizzy cap and it fired up. next day same problem left it a few hours and it started. tried it yesterday would not fire still wont fire. have looked into it a little deeper, the plugs are getting the spark and i can hear the fuel pump click. i am thinking immobiliser problem

please please please help

the discovery 1 imob stops the starter turning.. not sure on the details but the good old spider thing makes it dead when you turn the key.. I know later models and some RR imobs cut the fuel but this isn't the case on the disco 1.. not much help but probably rules out that.. have you checked that you have fuel to the cylinders? is there any chance the fuel is old and stale? have you checked that you have air to the cylinders? have you checked that the spark is strong enough to ignite the fuel you are using? have you checked that the starter is turning the engine fast enough to compress and fire?

The engine ECU picks up it's info from the the coil so check that the connections on top of the coil are clean and tight. The ECU will tell the pump to start pumping only when the engine is being turned over.

check the ignition control module on the side off the dizzy, my 3.5 module went and had the same problems as you have, after replacing the coil and the ignition module all is well, they are about 40 - 60 quid depending on if you need a 3 into 2 core adapter

I had the exact same problem...turned out to be the 'air gap' on the pick that is in the dizzy below the rotor arm. Wasnt telling the coil to spark.

simple adjustment

do you have aone button remote or two?
one button no spider
two button can have a spider they were not fitted till after 1996ish modle year some had them some did not

i would be inclined to check for fuel pressure and also check the interia switch has not tripped proberly a pump failure
as you have aspark you can count out the ignition side unless it is a poor orange rather than a fat blue spark
