Hi StickyBackBob,

The link no longer works and I was wondering of you could send me any information that you have on the rear window problem direct. I hear there is a common "dry contact fault" but that is all I know at the moment.

Cheers

Marcus

Looks like there site is down on that page

All other info is working...

Right Basically.
Remove your glove box on a Discovery
You will find the modual tucked up behind the glovebox
Carefully unplug the modual and then remove.
Open the modual up and remove the circuit board.
Look at the back of the board (Soldered side)
And you hopefully will see one of the soldered joint slightly burn and the leg of the relay has become detached from the solder.
Resolder the leg and while you are at it check all the other joints (I soldered all of them for piece of mind)
Replace board back into case and then plug back in.

If you dont know which modual it is then hold on to it and operate the front windows, you should feel a clunk as the relays inside energise.

Good Luck, I will try and find my pictures out at home later of the board and the joint that is the common fault.

(NOT SURE IF THIS IS IN THE SAME POSITION ON A RANGY)

Worked great on my 95 disco. hardest bit is getting the face/board out but I go a screwdriver right in the left site and it levered behind the large connector pulling out the pcb too.

Same joint was suspect plus a couple of others looked iffy so I did them too.

After all that effort I've now discoverd the back windows only half open anyway!

Is it called a discovery because you discover how to mend something every week?

Lol, they will only half open any way because of the shape of the door and window.

The window is wider than the half of the door. :p

Hello chaps... this is only my third post on here but I just want to say the technical side of this site is spot on.
I've had the exact same problem with the rear windows on my Disco and traced the fault back to the window ECU. So I was all ready to buy a new unit until I came across the post on here..and guess what, yeah.. a dodgy soldered connection on the PCB.
Thanks everyone, good work.:)

i only have 1 rear window not working, are they linked on circuit bored or seperate?

As far as I remember, they are linked so the ecu should be ok in yours. When I first got my disco, the ecu was working but had dirty contacts to the motors in the doors. Cleaned them up and all was well for a couple of weeks then the ecu spat its dummy.

In your case, I'd start with checking the switches. Swap some around and see if the fault stays with the same window. If it doesn't, then you have a duff switch. If the fault remains, whip the door car off and check the motor.

My rear window fault is erratic. If I stop and turn of the ignition then back on again they work, and then wont, park up and they wont then will etc etc etc. I came across this on another disco of a similar era recently as well.

Any guesses?

hi folks newbie here,"96" disco xs, just had a go at the soldering fix ref rear windows . took me longer than 15 mins lol but did it so thanxs all herbie.

I just fixed mine (never worked) and I too discovered the rears only go half way down!
I feel a bit jipped.

They only go half-way down 'cos of the wheelarch shaped intrusion into the door, (that's why the front doors don't fit in the rear gaps), :D:D:rolleyes:;)

Firstly, Hi to everyone! I have just acquired my 1995 Discovery 300 TDi and guess what? Rear windows don't work. This morning have done the ECU fix but still no joy so during my lunch break I am going to swap around some of the rocker switches on the console to be sure. I`ll let you know on that.
Saying I establish that it is not a switch problem.......Then I can only think that it maybe the motors?? Or has anyone come across the fault being a dodgy relay on the ECU board? Because you cant hear the relay 'click' when pressing any of the switches, like you can with the front windows.

Anyways, that was my first post here so another Hi! and I look forward to your thoughts. :D

Hi All! I have just acquired my '95 Disco 300 TDi and guess what? Rear windows not working. I have done the ECU fix but still no go. So during my lunch break today I am going to try swapping some of the rocker switches on the console to eliminate them. Saying that I eliminate a switch problem, has anyone had of heard of the fault being a dodgy relay on the ECU board? After that my only remaining option could be the motors in both the rear windows.

Well that was my first post! Hi again and I look forward to your thoughts :D
