Hi All,

Been lurking and browsing for aaaages, thought about time I introduced myself.

I'm Matt, and work for a garage selling Jeeps. As nice as they are, I've always hankered for a Landy, best friend has a 110, brother in law has always had a landrover of some description (his 101GS was by far my favourite, especially as you could hide his doors when it was left unattended), and finally SWMBO has allowed me to start putting some money away for a money pit!

I think having done lots of reading and for my needs I want a Series 1/2 Disco, probably a TDI and preferably a manual.

I have very little knowledge myself, but have had a few cars which I spannered away on in the past. It will only be a toy so dosen't have to be perfect and can be a bit of an ongoing project! Looking forward to absorbing all the collective knowledge availible here! Will be primarily looking at P&P days and greenlaning eventually.

Thanks in advance for all the help I will need!

So, after my 30th I now have an official fund, with a money box and everything.

Having thought about it lots more, Definately a TDi, seen a few around (one on here had the money box been big enough I would have bought already) and a couple on the bay that look good - so hopefully soon will have a Disco shaped update!

:welcome2:
Good to have plans! take ya time there will be total dogs out there, and although you are happy with a project theres big difference between a project and a no hoper of a buy.
Add tool allowance into ya budget, easy to work on but good tool kit essential if ya looking to not use garages.
Good luck keep us posted with pics of ones ya looking at! :)

Well, luckily a very good friend, mechanic and LR owner friend of mine has just been given a job in our workshop, so I have access to his tools, and two and four poster ramps, and hopefully a slightly friendly MOT tester.

As for welding it's definitely something I want to learn - I am currently looking at an MOT fail that needs rear arches, body mounts and crossmember done, my Brother in law can weld, as can my mate so hope to learn from them.

I don't want to go stupid with it, but half decent set of wheels and tyres, colour change to something subtle like a battleship grey or NATO green... I dunno! Lots of ideas, but want to get something solid to work from.

So, been to look at my first disco tonight, after a few emails back and forth. Car has MOT for a good few months, bit of tax, didn't look amazing but had recently done the Mac 4x4 so figured it had had a good run.

After looking though (and taking my mate with me for his advice) - decided to give it a miss, drove well and the chassis was sound, but the body was very poor. The usual bits you can see straight away were repaired to an extent, but under the carpets were plates not even welded anywhere, and when I saw the expanding foam filler under the dash I was pretty much out there and then.

Shame, nice guy, very straight and honest seller, but I want a rolling project not a complete reshell job!

The search continues!

Search/post in the disco section... :D …

Please don't ask where that is...
 :D

I'm keeping an eye in the for sale section (ie. wake up, see what's going on on Facebook, then check the for sale section then gumtree / eBay) this is just keeping up to date with my progress!
