Hello LR folks, I've been here years ago but forgot my details! Can anyone help? I'm desperate now and at wits end. Spent a lot on a complete engine overhaul on my '98 disco 300tdi & the turbo cartridge replaced,(this is not a job I could do so my mechanic worked on it and seemingly did a good job). He thought any smoke was oil remaining in exhaust, however after one week on road it got progressively worse with blue smoke again. Seems to be running ok except for burning up the oil! Level dropping fast as you might expect. Diesel pump was also overhauled, by the way. Any advice would be much appreciated, this is my workhorse and I need it working properly.

run it with intercooler hose to manifold off, is there much pressure when you remove filler cap ,does it start first turn of the key

take intercooler pipes off and clean the oil out.

check again in a few days to see if they are swimming in oil. a misty bit of oil is fine, just not pools. if you have pools again, then turbo seals are gone.

Sounds like your turbo seals are knackered.
If you continue to run the engine with the turbo hose connected then this could happen.
YouTube - insane runaway diesel

take it back to the mechanic for him to fix under warranty.
He is responsible for his work I take it

Gentlemen, thanks for the advice. Still working on this and will let you know what happens. Can't believe the new turbo has gone already -what would cause this? -other than a poor quality part?
Thanks also for the welcome comments.
