I have some old steel rims that came with my Land Rover Defender 90 they are 16" x 5.5". What is the best tyer size to fit to this size of rim

Before we're jumped on for being the unfriendliest forum there is, it is normally good form to introduce yourself in the imaginatively titled "introduce yourself" section.
Secondly, there is an absolute plethora of information about tyres and wheel rims on here, there is a search function which will undoubtedly take you in the right direction.

What exactly is a "Tyer"?
Is that the person wot ties the tyres onto the rims, otherwise known as 'Rimmer'?
Or is the tyer a big bloke that fits on rims?
